The Commission on Higher Education Caraga Regional Office (CHED Caraga), in partnership with Caraga Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), participated in the vaccination of students in the tertiary level during the 3-Day COVID-19 National Vaccination Program declared by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and headed by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), held from November 29 to December 1, 2021.

 

Six (6) HEIs partnered with the Local Government Unit (LGU) to allow use of facilities as vaccination sites, such as gymnasiums. Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU), Butuan Doctors College (BDC), Surigao Education Center (SEC), Surigao State College of Technology (SSCT), Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig (ASCB), were partner HEIs among others. 

 

37 nursing students volunteered their time, energy, and expertise, and served as vaccinators for the 3-day vaccination activity. 109 HEI personnel also offered their time and volunteered to serve as data encoders, screeners, and vaccinators, among other responsibilities. 

 

3,450 students were targeted to be vaccinated in the span of the 3 days. For the next 3-day COVID-19 National Vaccination Program scheduled on December 15 to 17, 2021, more than 4,500 tertiary students are targeted to be inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccine.

 

During a tour of Caraga HEIs from December 2-7, 2021 to promote the Vaccination Program of Students and Personnel in preparation for the conduct of the limited face to face classes,  51 schools out of 56 or 91% of HEIs in the region were visited by Regional Director Dr. Leonida S. Calagui, together with the Educational Supervisors and staff for the campaign activity. 

 

From a consolidation of reports on vaccination rates provided by HEIs, as of the aforementioned date more than 90% of personnel in Caraga HEIs have been vaccinated, and a 100% vaccination rate is expected at the end of the year. 

 

As for the reports on the vaccination of students in the Caraga HEIs, 58% were vaccinated, and more than 60-65% vaccination rates expected to be achieved at the end of the year.
