The Commission on Higher Education – Caraga Regional Office (CHED Caraga), held an online teaching demonstration contest with educators from various Caraga Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) on the morning of August 24, 2021 via ZOOM Teleconferencing and Facebook Live as part of the activities for the month-long celebration of the 54th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Founding Anniversary.

Working with the theme, “Padyak! Moving forward, claiming victory for the Philippine Higher Education (PHE) in the ASEAN Community,” ten (10) educators were tasked to create a learning plan focused on a particular subject and film a seven-minute tutorial video on the teaching process which demonstrated the model for the judges. The participating educators represented the following HEIs: Agusan Colleges Inc. (ACI), Andres Soriano College of Bislig (ASCB), Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), Caraga State University – Cabadbaran (CSUCC), Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU), Merchant Marine Academy of Caraga Inc. (MMACI), Philippine Normal University – Mindanao (PNU Mindanao), Surigao del Sur State University – Main (SDSSU MAIN), Saint Michael College of Caraga (SMCC), and Surigao State College of Technology – Main Campus (SSCT Main).

The entries were then subjected to judging by a panel of judges, composed of the following: Mr. Kenneth Jeason B. Garcia, Special Science Teacher III (English) at Philippine Science High School Caraga Region Campus; Dr. Alejandro P. Macadatar, Education Program Supervisor at Department of Education Caraga; and Dr. Rolyna S. Trugillo, Education Supervisor II at CHED Caraga.

Participants had to endure a three-day wait, as the winners for the competition were announced later in the month during the Culmination Program on August 27, 2021. The resulting winners were as follows: 1st Place with a cash prize of Php 3,000 – Prof. June R. Dumanhug of PNU Mindanao; 2nd Place with a cash prize of Php 2,000 – Ms. Rochelle A. Valencia of FSUU; and 3rd Place with a cash prize of Php 1,000 – Mr. Matthew E. Cañeda of ASSCAT.
