The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) – Caraga Regional Office held a virtual gathering on the afternoon of May 20, 2021 with the coordinators of Caraga Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The virtual gathering, conducted from the CHEDRO-Caraga HEDC Building via ZOOM Cloud Meetings, served as a ceremony celebrating the achievements of HEIs during the Academic Period 2019-2021, and giving of awards to the winning HEIs of the various competitions organized in conjunction with the 1st National Higher Education Day and CHED’s 27th Anniversary.

Dr. Julia Felisa Martinez, Chief Education Program Specialist, welcomed and acknowledged the participating Caraga HEI coordinators. After this followed a video message from the CHED Chairperson Dr. J Prospero E. De Vera III, and opening remarks from CHED Caraga Director IV Dr. Leonida S. Calagui.

The program then proceeded to the awarding of prizes for the National Higher Education Day Competitions.

For the first competition, Best Promotional Video, Philippine Normal University – Mindanao Campus (PNU-Mindanao) won first (1st) place. Second (2nd) place was awarded to St. Paul University Surigao (SPUS), and Surigao State College of Technology – Main Campus (SSCT-Main) finished in third (3rd) place. Northeastern Mindanao Colleges (NEMCO) was given the People’s Choice award.

The awarding ceremony continued with the second competition, Best COVID-19 Related Implemented Program (School-Based). SSCT-Main won in this competition as well, bagging the first (1st) place. NEMCO placed second (2nd), and Butuan Doctor’s College (BDC) placed third (3rd).

For the third and final competition, Best COVID-19 Related Implemented Program (Community-Based), SSCT-Main, and BDC received the first (1st) and second (2nd) place awards respectively.

After the awarding of the three (3) competitions was the recognition of the achievements of Caraga HEIs for the Academic Period 2019-2021. The achievements recognized were as follows: HEIs with Board Exam Topnotchers, Top Performing HEIs, HEIs with Institutional Accreditation, HEIs with Program Accreditation, HEIs with Quality Management Systems (QMS) Certifications, and HEIs with the most completers of the K to 12 Scholarship Program.

The program closed with a series of video messages of congratulations from partner agencies in Caraga, and final remarks from Dr. Leonida S. Calagui, Director IV.
