The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) – Caraga Regional Office conducted a webinar on the afternoon of May 17, 2021 on the topic of Public Service Values for Higher Education Institution (HEI) Presidents and Other Key Officials in the Caraga Region, in conjunction with the 1st National Higher Education Day and CHED’s 27th Founding Anniversary.
Held at the HEDC Building via ZOOM Cloud Meetings, the webinar featured resource person Mr. Audie Masigan, current Managing Director of MW LEADS Management Consulting. With 20 years of experience and a proven success record in industrial peace, profitability turn-around situations, sales and account management, project management, customer service and crisis & conflict management, Mr. Masigan brought many useful insights in his presentation on Public Service Values for Higher Education Institution Presidents and Other Key Officials in the Caraga Region that spanned the whole afternoon.
The 3-hour interactive presentation featured the Kouzes and Posner’s The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership®, in which Mr. Masigan is one of a few selected Certified Facilitators.
The Five Practices are as follows: Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart.
Mr. Masigan also highlighted the importance of values such as integrity, spirituality, and patriotism and its applications in public service, especially in the context of higher education institution leadership roles and demonstrating these in front of fellow organizational members and constituents.
Ultimately, “the foundation of leadership is credibility,” according to Mr. Masigan.
After the presentation, Director IV Dr. Leonida S. Calagui shared her own insights and reflections on the discussion. Questions from the attending HEI heads and representatives were also entertained by Mr. Masigan when the floor was opened for questions.
The afternoon’s webinar closed with a message by Dr. Julia Felisa Martinez, Chief Education Program Specialist.
