In response to the pressing issue on the rising cases of teenage pregnancy in Caraga Region as second among the top three regions in Mindanao who have registered the highest number of teenage pregnancies per Population Commission 2019 report, the CHEDRO conducted a webinar on Adolescent Health and Development Program (AHDP) and Teenage Pregnancy on December 4, 2020 which was virtually attended by the Presidents/Heads, Guidance Counselors, GAD Focal Persons, Clinic Staff, Student Leaders and Representatives from the private and public HEIs in the region.

 

As stated in the Regional Development Council (RDC) Resolution No. 39-A, Series of 2019, with subject, “Enjoining the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Health (DOH), and Commission on Population and Development (PopCom) to Institutionalize the Conduct of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) Sessions in Higher Education Institutions in Caraga Region”, three agencies were tasked to promote awareness and knowledge on teenage pregnancy in the Region hence the conduct of activity.

 

Speakers in the webinar were Mr. Dinnes Karl N. Garcia, Regional Program Manager on Adolescent Health and Development Program of the Department of Health and Dir. Alexander A. Makinano, the Regional Director of the Commission on Population and Development – Caraga. They presented comprehensive report on the teenage pregnancy cases in the region and their programs and activities which triggered the interest of the participants hence the engaging question and answer sessions.
