The month-long celebration of ASEAN’s 53rd founding anniversary ended with a culmination program and awarding of the regional competition winners on September 4, 2020 live on Facebook via Zoom Cloud Meetings.

The event is an annual occasion that commemorates the ASEAN founding anniversary. This year’s honoring is celebrated through the chairmanship of Vietnam with the theme: “Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN.”

One of the highlights of CHED-Caraga’s ASEAN-related activities conducted include a webinar on “Gender Sensitivity in the Context of ASEAN during the Pandemic Crisis” delivered by Hon. CHED Commissioner Aldrin Darilag. The Office also organized online workshops for Information Technology Education, and launched three regional competitions namely: ASEAN Advocacy Material Development, COVID-19 Health Facility Innovation, and Virtual Demo-Teaching.

Winners were announced and prizes were virtually given to the winning HEIs. Following are the declared winners:

1. ASEAN Advocacy Material Development Competition- Caraga State University-Cabadabaran Campus;

2. COVID-19 Health Facility Innovation Competition- Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology;

3. Best in Teaching Model Implementer- Asynchronous and Synchronous (Student and Teacher Category)- Philippine Normal University-Mindanao Campus

4. Best Innovative Instructional Design-with and without the use of internet (Student and Teacher Category)- Philippine Normal University-Mindanao Campus; over-all champion.

Atty. Lily Freida Milla, CESO IV, OIC Deputy Executive Director, honored the culminations activity with her virtual presence as the guest speaker. With her unending support to the Regional Office, she reminded the participating HEIs that, “Despite this health crisis, we still can come together and celebrate.” She even congratulated and commended the creativity, talents, and hard work that the CHED Caraga employees have rendered for this occasion.

Despite this year’s turn of events, there is still indeed a reason to come together and be unified. With the success of the ASEAN celebration, CHED-Caraga proved that COVID-19 is a crisis that we can overcome as long as we help each other, become one, and learn as one.
